BY CAZ ADAMS

Assessment is due this week – so please move things along.
As soon as it is finalised please email it to me at: carol.adams7@tafensw.edu.au

THOSE WHO HAVE NOT FINALISED SCRIPT:
Please finalise it today.  If possible record all narration and/or interview

THOSE WHO ARE READY TO RECORD:

  • Please record all narration and/or interview
  • Do not speak too quickly.
  • Keep it natural as if you’re just telling one person.  If you try too hard, it tends to push  the listener away.  Basically don’t try and do a DJ voice.  It feels false. Be yourself.

THOSE WHO ARE READY TO EDIT:

  • Open a project in AUDITION
  • Lay narration on 1 track – Listen to all takes and choose best
If you know you are adding a SFX or fading music in or out, allow a space before the next paragraph/sentence. This space can be moved to make it longer or shorter when the SFX or music is laid down. You may prefer to add SFX and music as you go.
  • Lay SFX on another track
  • Lay music on another track
  • In most circumstances it is best to fade in SFX and Music and then fade it out
  • Make sure that SFX and Music are not so loud that the narration can’t be heard and understood

YouTube – AUDITION Software Tutorial – Might be worth a look

FOR EVERYONE:

If the studio is busy and you have to wait to record, please use the time to gather sound effects and music tracks ready for the edit.

  • Make a Folder (1) – give it your Project Name (e.g. Tunnel in the Sky)
  • Make a Folder (2) – name it VO
Place all recorded VO takes in this Folder
Place this Folder in your Project Folder
  • Make a Folder (3) – name it Interview
Place all recorded Interview takes in this Folder
Place this Folder in your Project Folder
  • Make a Folder (4) – name it SFX (Sound Effects)
Place all SFX in this Folder
Place this Folder in your Project Folder
  • Make a Folder (5) – name it Music
Place all music tracks in this Folder
Place this Folder in your Project Folder

If you don’t keep everything in Folders as you go and later decide to clean the desktop up/move files, then the software can’t find them and they appear as missing in your edit.  This can cause problems and a lot of stress.

DO NOT TRASH ANYTHING – UNTIL I’VE HAD A CHANCE TO LISTEN AND GIVE FEEDBACK.  SOMETIMES A DIFFERENT TAKE OR INTERVIEW QUESTION  / ANSWER CAN WORK BETTER.
