Working with a team

There are a number of online tools designed to help teams work better.

One of these is Slack. You can use it as a web-based program, a mobile app, or install it on your laptop or desktop.

Analytics are available within Facebook and Twitter. Instagram analytics requires a business account.

Tools for scheduling

Another way to manage socials is through management tools like Hootsuite, Tweetdeck and Buffer.

These tools also allow you to schedule posts.

RESEARCH: The differences between these tools:

  • Do they cover a range of socials?
  • How much do they cost?
  • What analytics do they provide?

Growth

DISCUSS:

The goal for most social media professionals is to grow the social media platform they manage.

DISCUSS: On social media:

  • What defines growth?
  • How do you grow followers/audience? Does the audience need to engage?
  • What is the difference between organic and paid traffic?

TASK – ORGANIC TRAFFIC: List ten different ways to grow traffic on social media organically (try a Google search to get some ideas).

TASK – PAID TRAFFIC: Choose one platform from: Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and research the different types of advertisements for that platform, what objectives might you consider when creating an ad, and how much do ads cost.

Social media strategies

To grow social media platforms strategically, requires the creation of a social media strategy

DISCUSS: What is a social media strategy? Have you ever created one before?

Livestreaming

DISCUSS:

  • What is the best live streaming event you’ve watched?
  • Why was it good?
  • Was there anything that could have been improved?
  • Have you ever livestreamed your own event? If so, how did you do it?
  • What are some benefits of livestreaming for OffCampus?

WATCH:

A couple of web apps for livestreaming to a number of platforms include:

  • Which one do you think is better?
  • Which one has more advanced functions?
  • Which is more user friendly?
TASK

Make a story for the platform of your choice and your assessment portfolio.
